Martin Tomsky works with layered, laser cut wood to create intricate 3dimensional designs. The imagery he uses is often fantastical and a little on the morbid side, with slime and bones showing through animals’ bodies, monsters and dead things.
I find the way he dyes the wood very interesting, as it gives each work a lot more depth, or at least the illusion of depth. With so many pieces, if it was all the same colour it would be easy for details to get lost. This kind of technique is something I would need to consider if I make something layered.
