Learned how to do steam bending.
It is a simple enough method, requiring a box, preferably just big enough for the piece of wood to fit inside, fixed to a steam machine to soak it. Another method that works on smaller pieces is to let it soak in boiling water. The box is simple enough, it just needs small holes to let out excess water build up.
An important thing to note is to not underestimate the amount of time it takes to soften the wood; taking it out too early and trying to bend it will cause the wood to splinter away in layers.
Formers are also vital. There are several different kinds, some more crude than others; a few screws drilled into a plank can create a simple former, or you can be more creative.
